Jeff Hanson is owner-manager of Hanson Safety Services, LLC in Fort Mill, SC.  As an occupational safety and health professional, he has worked effectively in state government and the commercial construction industry throughout the Carolinas.  Prior to starting his own safety services firm in June 2005, he was employed by the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, Office of OSHA Voluntary Programs, (1992 – 1997), and later with the Carolinas Associated General Contractors – CompTrustAGC of North and South Carolina, (1997 – 2005).  Positions held include:  SC OSHA Compliance Officer, Safety & Health Training Coordinator - Construction, and Loss Control Consultant.  He is an authorized OSHA 10 & 30-Hour Construction Safety Trainer through Federal OSHA’s Outreach Training Program.
 
Jeff continues to train commercial construction management teams and the workforce to raise safety awareness and prevent injury and loss.  He is a graduate of the University of South Carolina, B.A. in Political Science, 1992 and is currently enrolled in Eastern Kentucky University’s Master’s of Science degree program in Safety, Security, and Emergency Management with expected graduation in May 2009.

A former active Marine, (1981-1989), Jeff is now a retired member of the South Carolina Air National Guard’s 169th Fighter Wing having served  a total of nearly twenty-two years.  In 1992, while working on his undergraduate degree, Jeff volunteered to join the S.C. Air National Guard and returned to the Middle East to take part in Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm and later, Operations Southern Watch, Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom. 

Returning to South Carolina after the war, Jeff became motivated to help homeless veterans after realizing that some 33 percent of homeless person are veterans.   In December 1992, along with fellow Guard member Major John J. Johnson and two Vietnam veterans, CWO4 W. Ray Owens (deceased) and Sergeant First Class Wallace B. Miles (deceased), Jeff helped to establish a Palmetto State Base Camp, Inc..   Today, he serves as President of the organization.  

Jeff has worked to ensure that this program continues to grow and fulfill its mission of helping homeless veterans empower themselves to again become contributing members of society.  Jeff’s efforts include devoting countless volunteer hours to the cause, as well as raising nearly $20,000 for the non-profit organization.  He has helped to secure more than $10,000 from veteran service organizations, $3,000 from the SC Veterans Trust Fund and another $4,000 from The Richland Sertoma Club and Sertoma International; the latter funding supports the technology upgrades being put in place today at the Veterans’ Home.  He also provided, through the expertise of a family member, a design-built computer for the veteran residents.  This automation has supported participating veterans continuing their education at Midlands Technical College or the University of South Carolina.

Jeff is a member of Carolinas Associated General Contractors – 2007-08; American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) – 2008; American Subcontractors Association of the Carolinas – 2007-08; SC Hispanic Worker Safety Task Force – 2005-06, and holds a number of leadership and officer positions in non-profit and community service organizations in South Carolina including Palmetto State Base Camp, Inc. and The Richland Sertoma Club.

Jeff lives in Fort Mill, SC with his wife Suzanne and sons Trevor and Tyler.  He enjoys jogging, walking, weightlifting and spending time with family and friends.
